Crowns and Bridges
Do you have severely damaged teeth?
With crowns, we can protect teeth that have been badly damaged by decay or trauma. A dental crown is a tooth replica that is used to cover damaged, unattractive teeth in order to prevent fractures and restore beauty. At our office, we offer all-porcelain crowns. These restorations produce vivid, lifelike results without the unaesthetic dark hue around the gum line.
If you are missing a tooth or have one that is too damaged to be repaired with a crown, Dr. Villar can replace it using a bridge. A bridge consists of two crowns connected by an artificial tooth. As the crowns are placed over the teeth surrounding an empty space, the artificial tooth fills in the gap. Like dental implants, bridges help to restore bite strength, and reduce speech impediments caused by missing teeth. And because they are custom made to complement the features of your smile, they produce extremely natural-looking results.
Periodontics (Gum Disease Treatment)
Caring for your teeth doesn't do that much good if they don't stay secure in your jaws. Gum disease, which starts as bleeding and tenderness and swelling in the gums, can become a serious infection in its later stages. Endodontics (Root Canals)
When a tooth experiences advanced decay, trauma, or extensive dental work, it is possible for the nerves to die, cause an infection, and create extreme pain. A root canal is used to preserve the tooth by cleaning out the infected or dead nerves from the canals, then filling them with a material. Subsequently, the tooth is restored with a crown that replicates the look and feel of the original tooth.
Technology
Advances in technology allow us not only to perform better procedures, but also to detect the need for procedures more quickly and accurately. Dr. Villar's practice employs two systems that use painless light technology to find emerging dental and oral health problems before they become too serious to treat. One is DIAGNOdent®, which is capable of detecting tooth cavities in their very early stages, before a dentist using traditional metal probes would be able to locate them. The other system is called VELscope®, and it is used to highlight cancerous growths in the soft tissues of the mouth before they become visible to the naked eye. By allowing oral cancer to be caught early, VELscope® saves lives and reduces treatment costs. Both technologies take advantage of the fact that abnormal tissue reflects and absorbs high-energy light in different ways than healthy tissue does. By using them to find problems when they are less serious and easier to treat, Dr. Villar is able to give his patients the simplest and most effective treatments at the appropriate times.
